Congratulations to Ohio University's First Marshall Scholars
Jessica Benson and Natalie Kruse
After months of polishing and perfecting their applications and weeks of preparing for interviews, Jessica and Natalie were chosen out of nearly a thousand applicants as two of the forty four Marshall Scholarship recipients. Standing alongside recipients from institutions such as Stanford, Yale, Princeton, Northwestern, and Berkeley, Jessica and Natalie have made Ohio University proud and have proven that the students here are of as high a caliber as those at big-name universities across the nation. The Marshall will cover university tuition, fees, living expenses, and the costs of books, research, and travel for two years, with a possible renewal for a third year.
Jessica, a 2003 Goldwater recipient, is currently studying engineering physics through the Honors Tutorial College and mechanical engineering in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology. She will pursue a PhD in Experimental Solid State Physics, specializing in Organic Photovoltaics at the Imperial College of Science and Technology in London.
Natalie, an Ohio University Cutler Scholar, was awarded both the Udall and the Goldwater in 2003. She is a civil engineering major in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology with a minor in geology. She will study geochemistry at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, focusing her research efforts on abandoned coal mine remediation.
Please join the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards in celebrating the outstanding accomplishments of these extraordinary students and in thanking those who offered their invaluable assistance and guidance in the application process.
