National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program
The fellowship provides three years of support for graduate study leading to research-based master's or doctoral degrees and is intended for students who are at the early stages of their graduate study in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Eligibility: Applicants must be United States citizens or nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States. Applicants must have completed no more than twelve months of full-time graduate study or the equivalent in part-time study. Individuals MAY APPLY DURING THE SENIOR YEAR OF COLLEGE, prior to or during the first year of graduate school, and at the beginning of the second year of graduate school.

National Physical Science Consortium Graduate Fellowships for Minorities and Women (NPSC)
Applicants should have research experience in one of the following fields: Astronomy, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Materials Science, Mathematical Sciences, Physics, or in related engineering fields such as Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Environmental, Mechanical. NPSC welcomes applications from all qualified students, with continued emphasis on the recruiting of underrepresented minorities and women. Applicants must be graduating seniors with at least a 3.0/4.0 GPA, in their first year of a graduate program pursuing a Ph.D., be in a terminal master's program, or be returning from the workforce with no more than a master's degree. Persons who already possess a doctoral degree in any field are ineligible. The NPSC awards up to $16,000 stipends for students aspiring to earn a doctoral degree the physical sciences, biochemistry, computer science, and related fields of science and engineering

ANTHROPOLOGY
American Museum of Natural History Grants and Fellowships
The American Museum of Natural History offers competitive grants and fellowships in areas broadly related to its scientific and educational objectives. These areas include the fields of vertebrate zoology, invertebrate zoology, paleozoology, anthropology, and earth and planetary sciences. This site describes the programs that provide the support, and gives instructions to individuals who wish to apply. Four major programs are involved: Grants, Research Fellowships, Graduate Student Fellowships (including International Graduate Student Fellowships), and Research Experiences for Undergraduates. More information about each program is available on the web site.

NEW AMERICANS
The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans
Each year the Fellow receives a maintenance grant of $20,000 (paid in two installments) and a tuition grant of one-half the tuition cost of the U.S. graduate program attended by the Fellow.
Eligibility: A New American is an individual who (1) is a resident alien; i.e., holds a Green Card or, (2) has been naturalized as a U.S. citizen or (3) is the child of two parents who are both naturalized citizens. The applicant must either have a bachelor's degree or be in her/his final year of undergraduate study. Academic record is relevant as evidence of the candidate's ability to complete successfully a graduate degree program and it strengthens the demonstration of achieving the Program's specific criteria for selection. A successful candidate demonstrates creativity, originality, and initiative, and a commitment to the values expressed in the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

STUDY ABROAD
American Academy in Berlin Fellowships
Fellowship program invites individuals to engage in independent study in Berlin for one academic semester or year. Approximately 20 fellowships offered each year. Stipends range from $15,000 to $25,000 per semester. The award also provides roundtrip airfare, housing, and meals. Graduate students interested in humanities, social sciences, arts and architecture, public policy and social research, Theater, Film, & TV.
Deadline: Application must be received in Berlin by October 25
National Security Education Program Scholarship
Information Session: Gordy 109, Thursday, September 30, 5:00 p.m.
Provides scholarships to U.S. undergraduate students for study abroad in world areas critical to U.S. National Security.
Recipients incur an obligation to work either for an office or agency of the Federal Government involved in national security affairs or in higher education.

UNDERREPRESENTED STUDENTS
Hispanic Scholarship Fund
The College Scholarship Program is available on a competitive basis to community college, four-year college, and graduate students of Hispanic heritage. Award amounts generally range from $1,000 to $3,000.
Eligibility: Must be of Hispanic heritage, a U.S. Citizen or a legal permanent resident with permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 (not expired), an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program at an accredited U.S. college or university in the U.S., Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. Must have earned at least 12 undergraduate units in a U.S. accredited college or university, have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0, and must have applied for Federal Financial Aid.

UNCF Merck Science Initiative Graduate Research Dissertation Fellowships
The award, intended to support African American graduate students as they complete coursework, conduct research, and prepare the dissertation required for the doctoral degree in the biomedically relevant life or physical sciences, consists of a fellowship stipend up to $30,000 and a department grant up to $10,000.
Eligibility: Applicants must be African American, enrolled full time in a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral program in the life or physical sciences, engaged in and within 1-3 years of completing dissertation research, and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

UNCF Merck Science Initiative Undergraduate Science Research Scholarships
The award, intended to encourage the interest of African American undergraduate students in furthering their science education and pursuing biomedical science careers, consists of a scholarship up to $25,000 and two summer internship stipends totaling a minimum of $10,000.
Eligibility: Applicants must be African American, juniors who will be a degree candidate in the 2005-2006 academic year, life or physical science majors interested in biomedical research, and U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 and be committed to two 10-12 week summer internships at a Merck research facility.

STAR Fellowships
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as part of its Science to Achieve Results (STAR) program, is offering Graduate Fellowships for master's and doctoral level students in environmentally related fields of study. Subject to availability of funding, the Agency plans to award approximately 100 new fellowships by July 21, 2005. Master's level students may receive support for a maximum of two years. Doctoral students may be supported for a maximum of three years with funding available, under certain circumstances, over a period of four years. The fellowship program provides up to $37,000 per year of support.

GRO Graduate Fellowships
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as part of its Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) program, is offering Graduate Fellowships for master's and doctoral level students in environmentally related fields of study. Subject to availability of funding, the Agency plans to award approximately 20 new fellowships by July 21, 2005. Master's level students may receive support for a maximum of two years. Doctoral students may be supported for a maximum of three years with funding available, under certain circumstances, over a period of four years. The fellowship program provides up to $37,000 per year of support.

GRO Undergraduate Fellowships
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is offering Greater Research Opportunities Undergraduate Fellowships for bachelor level students in environmentally related fields of study. Subject to availability of funding, the Agency plans to award approximately 15 new fellowships by July 21, 2005. Eligible students will receive support for their junior and senior years of undergraduate study and for an internship at an EPA facility during the summer between their junior and senior years. The fellowship provides up to $17,000 per year of academic support and up to $7,500 of internship support for the three-month summer period.
